Why is it April already?! When did time speed up?!
Every year, I do a few challenge updates throughout the year to see if I’m on track to achieving the goals I set out in January. Every year, without fail, I am behind! I am always chasing my tail in December and it turns into a mad sprint to try and achieve my reading goals.
Goodreads Challenge
My Goodreads Challenge this year is to read 60 books, which is the same as 2017 and 2016. I didn’t manage it both times so I am determined that this year is THE year. I always manage to make it over the 50 mark but never ever make it to 60 books. I know it sounds like a small amount but I am a slow reader and also between work and life commitments, anything more is just kidding myself!
Last year, part of the reason I didn’t make it to 60 books was that I spent about a month obsessed with graphic novels but my library doesn’t have a wide selection. So I was reading but not a lot during that month, this year I’m keeping graphic novels down to a bare minimum because I have too many books to read instead!
Stick with my Bullet Journal
This sounds like a strange one but I need to set it as a goal because otherwise I would just let my bullet journal sit and not be looked at for months at a time. Doing an update each month makes me stick with it and I love it and find it therapeutic. You can see my updates on Instagram @thebookmoo or in my posts below.
Write more
I AM FINALLY DOING THIS! I cannot recommend Google Docs enough, and no, unfortunately, this isn’t sponsored so I’m not being paid to say that. I just love it so much, it’s easy to use and especially for someone like me who writes in a few different places from different devices. I can pick up where I left off at my Fiance’s house, in my own house. I can double check things or quickly jot them down on my phone so this has really encouraged me to write more. I WILL FINISH THIS NOVEL IF IT KILLS ME.

Read all the books currently on my shelf before reading new releases
Ah, well this is going well. I’ve read 8 books that were already on my shelf so far this year which is good, to be honest. BUT, I have still been buying books which are pushing my older books further and further down the TBR pile. However, I am determined to get a good portion of my already owned books read, I even made a spreadsheet lookie here…
The list is like 7x longer than this, I shit you not. If you could scroll through the spreadsheet you would be there a while…
British Books Challenge
I have read 3 books from British authors so far this year, eek! This isn’t great but I will make up for it later in the year as you saw my list above…
January
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – J.K Rowling
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets – J.K Rowling
March
The Devil’s Poetry – Louise Cole
A-Z Challenge
So far I have checked off the letters D, G, H, I, O, R, T and W. Not too shabby but I bet that I won’t complete the alphabet before the end of the year!
Good luck with all your challenges! 💗
