TOP 5 WEDNESDAY: Favourite Fairytale Retellings

Top 5 Wednesday is set up by the lovely Lainey at GingerReadsLainey if you want to pop over and have a look at her channel. Let’s have a look at the topic for today!

Favourite Fairytale Retellings

5) Bloody Chamber – Angela Carter
Although I didn’t particularly enjoy this read, I do appreciate how well it is written and how unbelievably fairytale-like it is.

4) Scarlet – Marissa Meyer
This is my least favourite book in The Lunar Chronicles series but it is still a majorly brilliant retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. Scarlet as a character suits her hair colour as she is stubborn yet very feisty and kind of reminds me of myself!
3) Puppet – Pauline C. Harris
This book is written so well and has an amazing narrative. It is based on Pinnochio and is so unique! I really enjoyed this read as it was refreshing and it felt like a revamped version of the classic.
2) Cress – Marissa Meyer
Cress is a retelling of Rapunzel but it is set in a futuristic World where the heroines are kickass and actually truly amazing. Cress is a computer whizz kid who is a shell…
Rather than going into detail here, i’m just gonna tell you to go read it like now.

1) Cinder – Marissa Meyer
WELL WELL WELL! This is literally my favourite book ever. It is the beginning of The Lunar Chronicles and BY JOVE does it start off well. Something I love about this series on the whole is the layout. Each chapter has fairytale-esque font and the book is split up into 4 parts. Book one, two, three and four. These ‘books’ are then followed by an excerpt from the original fairytale.
Cinder is based on Cinderella of course and let me just say the bit where Cinderella loses her shoe is HIGHLY INTERESTING in Cinder!
WOO! That was this week’s Top 5 Wednesday, stay tuned for next week’s!
